Fused Images

The fusion plug-in module is available for generating 3-dimensional volumes that can be displayed in multiple orientations, manipulating in 3D space, and fusing functional and structural image volumes. using color maps and other representational controls. A less-features fusing capability exists for fusing selected 2D series  in a single view. These tools support the following:

• Fusing a functional (PET) series onto a selected anatomical (CT, MRI) series

When functional and structural series share the same frame of reference, an icon labeled Overlay Renderers appears in the top, left corner of the image frame. Clicking the icon displays a menu containing the following:

• A list of functional series that can be fused onto the selected structural series
• An option to apply or clear the fused results
• An option to fuse the selected overlay to all series sharing the frame of reference.

To fuse a functional series onto a structural series, 

1. Load a structural (CT. MRI) series into an available image frame
2. Click the overlay renderer menu to list the available series
3. Select one of the series. If it contains the necessary details needed to fuse it to the structural series, the two will be fused. The functional data will be applied as a color map. A second icon appears in the top, left corner of the image frame indicating which functional series was fused onto the structural series.
4. To modify the fused results, click the second icon in the top, left corner of the image frame. The applied settings appear in a panel. From the panel, you can modify the following:
   1. The relative weight of the functional image in the fused results
   2. The window width and default level of the functional image
   3. The applied color map

In a fused image frame, the window/level controls apply to the structural image. To adjust the functional image's window and level setting, hold down the CTRL key when using the mouse control.

The applied color map can also be selected from the color map  menu available in the Present Window/Level toolbar. 

Note: The fused images are temporary series and are not saved to the server. They are dropped when the viewer session ends.

Note: Use the Series Reconstruction tools to generate an alternative view (axial, sagittal, coronal) of the fused image series.
