Overlay Data

Displaying Overlay Data

Overlays appear at the corners of an image frame. The data displayed is defined by the DICOM Fields template assigned to each modality type.

Toggle the visible state of overlay data as follows:

  1. Click the View menu

  2. Select Show Overlays

Embedded Overlays

Embedded overlays are overlays created by third-party devices, such as the imaging modality, and encoded in the image object. When applied to an image, the corresponding image pixel is replaced by an overlay pixel, which when combined with other overlay pixels, result in a graphic displayed on top of the image. Overlays can exist for any object, but are frequently found on summary images or localizer images. By default, overlays are displayed if they exist for an object.

To toggle the embedded overlay setting:

Hiding PHI

Personal patient data can be quickly removed from the image frame and other places to protect against exposing it when sharing the viewer screen, capturing a snap shot or exporting data to a file or media.

The tool, Toggle PHI, is available in the configuration panel and can be added to a menu or toolbar, or assigned to a keyboard macro.
