Billing
Summary
This enhancement to Billing adds support for recording of the amount of contrast allocated to waste for use by the billing system.
Background
A vial of contrast contains a quantity of contrast material. The amount used depends on many factors (weight of patient etc.) This means that some amount is used on the patient, and some is left in the vial and now considered waste.
Previously RIS had no method for recording the amount that was wasted.
Feature Description
With this change, RIS will calculate these amounts and update the billing system.
The contrast grid columns have been re-ordered and updated to:
· Rename the Vials column to Vial Size to clarify the purpose of the column.
· Rename the Amount column to Used to clarify the purpose of the column.
· Add a new read-only column named Discarded, automatically calculated by subtracting the Used amount from Vial Size.
Additionally, a new Default Vial Size column has been added to the Contrast lookup table. This allows the vial size to automatically populate when a contrast is added to the study contrast grid when an exam is performed. If defaulted, then the Vial Size column in the contrast grid will not be editable.
Note that editing the Vial Size amount in the Contrast pane updates the Unit amount in the Billing Code Information pane but editing the Units on the Billing Code tab does not copy to the Vial Size amount in the Contrast pane (it is a one-way sync).
All amounts are rounded to 2 decimal places.
Known Limitations
· Expected behavior by design (from #34021) - Vial Size column behaviors
The Vial Size column (previously labeled as Vials) was originally used for text values, e.g., 10ml, but now will only accept numeric input.
Users encountering legacy values in the Vials column that include character data will have to manually update it. Note that the Unit must already exist in the Dosage Unit lookup table.
Additionally, when entering a value in the Vials column, the up/down "spinner" control will not appear, as it does for the Used column.
Configuration Instructions
No System Administrator actions are necessary to enable this feature; however, optional configuration is available:

Changes to Contrast Lookup Table
· A Default Vial Size can be added to the Contrast lookup table to have the vial size set automatically when a contrast is added to the study contrast grid when an exam is performed.

Note that if a Default Vial Size has been added to the Contrast lookup table, then the Vial Size column in the contrast grid will be read-only. If no default is set, the value is editable. |
