Audible SpeechMike feedback

When using a SpeechMike, audible feedback is available to help you know when you press a specific button or enter a specific mode. Each time you press a SpeechMike button, a soft audible click lets you know the action was requested.

When using a Philips SpeechMike in state mode, you must activate the device before you can create or modify a dictation. Press the record button to enable the SpeechMike. When enabled but not recording, an audible click indicates the microphone is enabled but not recording. When you press the play button (when enabled), the audible clicks stop and the SpeechMike starts recording.  Press the play button again, the SpeechMike returns to pause mode, and the audible clicks resume.

By default, audible clicks while recording using a SpeechMike is enabled. To display or modify the settings, click on Settings/Customize Settings/Dictation. To enable audible button clicks, check the box labeled SpeechMike button clicks. To enable the audible pause mode feedback, click the box labeled SpeechMike pause tick (plays a click every 1.5 seconds when pausing record mode).

Windows controls the sound file, and the default sound is the start.wav file. To change the source file, follow this procedure:

  1. From Windows, go to Start/Settings/Control Panel.

  2. Double click on sounds and audio devices.

  3. Select the sounds tab.

  4. In the program events list, find the Windows event for the SpeechMike and select it (the sounds list activates).

  5. Select any of the available wave files, or click on the browse button to search for a custom sound file.

  6. When you have the correct sound selected, click OK to save the change.
