To enable prefetching, open the prefetch settings panel. Enter the server name or IP address and check the Enable prefetch checkbox. When enabled, the server uses the worklist filter definition labeled prefetch or prefetch thumbnails to select the studies to send to the workstation. The viewer retrieves the entire study in the order listed in the prefetch worklist.
Note: The value defined in the Server address field must match the address used in the browser URL. For example, if you enter server.hospital.com in your browser, the Server field in the prefetch setup panel must be server.hospital.com. Similarly, if you enter 192.168.0.20 in the browser, the Server field must be 192.168.0.20 as well.
Prefetching can take place at all times, including when the viewer is loaded with a study, or only when the viewer is running in standby mode. Depending on the resources and performance of your workstation, you may experience interference due to the background prefetch processing when using the viewer. If you experience interference, check the Prefetch in standby mode only box. When checked, prefetching suspends when you open the viewer and automatically continues after you close the viewer.
When prefetch is enabled and the viewer is unable to connect to the configured prefetch server, a message appears in the system tray. The message appears for 30 seconds or until the user dismisses it with a mouse click. The message is repeated hourly.
The compression settings can be the same as the interactive download compression settings, or customize them to prefetching.
